Making Art Connections Across Selma

1. Youth Art Club Across Selma

Continues and expands membership
YACAS went on a field trip to the Birmingham Museum of Art and neighboring City Walk Skate Park to gain inspiration.
May 1st, hosted the Skate Park Paint Party in Bloch Park as our 1st annual Senior Project. Over 70 community members came out and revamped the dull skatepark.
Each YACAS member designed and painted the skate park obstacles highlighting their creativity and talent.
Muralist and skater Dewon Moton was the artist in residence, teaching spray paint technique and overseeing the concept as a whole.
Hotdogs were donated by the Rotary club and cooked by our volunteer mom.

2. Jazz It Up!

May. 7 - 9
MACAS brought jazz to the city! We hosted New Orleans star trumpet player James Andrews and his band the Crescent City Allstars for 3 days of packed commununity arts programming!
With our community partners: ArtsRevive and Selma City Schools, we hosted 1 school band workshop, 2 school performances and 2 free concerts.
Jazz It Up's premier event was a 2nd Line Parade into Selma across the Edmund Pettus Bridge. Over 70 community members danced across the bridge in joyful celebration together.

3. 3rd Grade Test Stress Releif

In March, we offered a painting art break for Selma City Schools entire 3rd grade!
In partnership with Selma City Schools, we painted with over 300 students.
The arts experience included an art break kit for the 3rd grade teachers and school staff too.
YACAS member, McKenzie Mott was the paid artist assistantant.
