

In 2025, MACAS has hosted many art connections across Selma. In communion with several organizations, MACAS' programming is reaching a broad spectrum of Selma citizens. We invite collaborations for 2026.

2025 Community Art Projects
1. Media Arts Workshop and Field Trip

Jan. 23 & 30

Hosted a workshop on how to conduct an interview for Selma High School's Media Club

Facilitated a field trip with the national media Storycorps where the students recorded their crafted interviews

The field trip included lunch with local entrepreneur and concluded with a healing circle.
2. Shop Door Murals

In community with Selma High School's CTE (Career Tech Education) MACAS continued their commitment to offer creative arts.

Held graphic design workshop for 3 classes

Painted 2 shop doors with over 15 SHS scholars and teachers
3. Community Mural in East Selma

March 11 & 26

In community partnership with the Selma Center for Nonviolence, Truth and Reconciliation's Alternative Spring Break, MACAS hosted a community mural on donated wall.

Over 100 people painted on the mural from preschoolers to seniors.

The mural was designed by artist Trés Taylor but facilitated by students from Bridgewater State University of Boston.
-
The artist encouraged self expression so participants added to the design.
4. Workshop with Lance Johnson

In community partnership with ArtsRevive, MACAS hosted the 1st Artist in Residence with Lance Johnson.

Johnson facilitated "Self Portrait - Beyond the Selfie" a collage workshop.
-
Participants of all ages created collages and painted pieces with guidance.

The workshop culminated with the opportunity to display their works in " Roots and Wings", ArtsRevive's annual juried show.

A collaborative piece was created as gift to the community.
5. Public Art Club

MACAS fosters creativity by creating the YAC (Youth Art Club) with students from a wide variety of schools and ages.

The YAC's first project was to add a mural sign to the Phoenix Park mural installation. 11/18/25

YAC club members installed their first Windows of Hope series in East Selma. The group installed 12 tarpaper paintings I=onto boarded up windows. This project is in communion with the SCNTR (Selma Center for Nonviolence, Truth, and Reconcilliation). See Pics here.
6. Community Mural by Tom Triumph

MACAS was asked to create a mural in honor of the renowned civil rights Boynton Family. Artist Tom Triumph created a fantastic mural, Courage in Bloom. This installation is standing on the Boynton property for the neighborhood to enjoy.
